Shoprite is committed to empowering South Africa’s youth — both employed and unemployed — through structured development programmes. These opportunities are designed to equip young people with the skills and training needed to reduce unemployment and prepare them for long-term careers. If you’re young, ambitious, and serious about your future, Shoprite’s youth initiatives — including the Retail Readiness Programme (RRP), the Youth Employment Services (YES) Initiative, and various study bursaries — are a great place to start. In this post, we focus on the Retail Readiness Programme, which helps youth without prior work experience take their first step into the retail industry.
What is the Retail Readiness Programme (RRP)?
The Retail Readiness Programme (RRP) is a skills development initiative by Shoprite that aims to equip young South Africans with basic retail knowledge and hands-on experience. The programme is made up of:
- 5 weeks of practical training in a retail environment
- 2 weeks of theory focused on essential workplace skills
After completing the programme, successful participants receive a National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 3 qualification — giving them an edge in the job market.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the Retail Readiness Programme, you must:
- Be South African
- Be between the ages of 18 and 34
- Have no previous work experience
Minimum Requirements
- A valid South African Matric certificate or an equivalent qualification

There are two ways to apply for the Shoprite Retail Readiness Programme:
