Overview

The Nedbank External Bursary Programme supports academically deserving students with financial need to pursue their first Undergraduate or Honours degree at a South African public University or University of Technology. The bursary aims to address South Africa’s scarce-skills shortages, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and Green Economy skills.

 

 

 

 

Criteria for Selection
  1. Citizenship: Only South African citizens are eligible.
  2. Financial Need: Proven financial need based on household income.
  3. Academic Performance:
    • Minimum average of 65% in the application year (grade 12 or university level).
    • Minimum average of 65% in required subjects aligned to the degree of study.
  4. Mathematics: Applicants with Mathematics Literacy are not considered.
  5. University Admission: Must have admission to a South African public university or university of technology for the desired Undergraduate or Honours qualification.

 

 

 

 

Required Supporting Documents

  1. South African Identity: Certified copy of your identity card/document.
  2. Academic Transcripts:
    • Grade 11 final results and mid-year results if in grade 12.
    • Grade 12 final results and mid-year results if in the first year of university.
    • Last academic year results and current mid-year results if already at university.
  3. Financial Checks Affidavit: Signed by the applicant and parent(s)/guardian(s).

Application Process

  1. Applications must be submitted online via the provided link.
  2. Incomplete applications will be disqualified.
  3. Applications will be screened and shortlisted according to the qualifying criteria.

 

 

 

 

Supporting Documents for Shortlisted Applicants

Shortlisted applicants’ parents, legal guardians, and income-earning household members must provide:

  1. Written consent for personal information to be verified.
  2. Completed income and expenditure statement for the combined household income.
  3. Certified copies of the following:
    • Identity documents.
    • Recent payslips, letters of employment (not older than three months).
    • Proof of income for informal traders or hawkers.
    • IRP5, IT3, and IT12 forms for the past two years for commission-based income.
    • Official pension slips or bank statements (not older than three months) for pension/grant/maintenance/rent/interest income.
    • Latest three months’ bank statements for parents/guardians and applicant.

Shortlisted applicants will undergo psychometric assessments, other evaluations, and a virtual interview.

Bursaries are awarded at the discretion of the Nedbank Educational Trust. All applicants will receive feedback upon the completion of the recruitment process.
