Purpose of the Role

The Facility Manager for the Distribution Centre (DC) will manage the daily operations, maintenance, and safety protocols of the facility. The role involves overseeing critical systems, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, optimizing space usage, managing vendor relationships, and leading the maintenance and security teams.

Minimum Requirements

• Education:
  • Grade 12.
  • 3-year degree in Facilities Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience:
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a distribution or logistics environment.
• Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, building costs, and maintenance costs.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and negotiate with vendors.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

1. DC Maintenance & Facility Management

• Oversee critical systems like generators, firefighting equipment, roller doors, dock levelers, and security systems.
• Maintain infrastructure, including barriers, racking, air conditioning, and plumbing.
• Conduct regular inspections, prioritize maintenance needs, and implement cost-effective solutions.
• Optimize space usage and ensure efficient operations of the facility.

2. Safety & Security Management

• Manage daily safety and security protocols to protect assets, staff, and the warehouse.
• Monitor CCTV footage, investigate incidents, and address suspicious behavior.
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) standards.
• Lead crisis management activities as needed.

3. Vendor & Contract Management

• Build and manage relationships with contractors and vendors for facility-related services.
• Negotiate contracts and ensure efficient cost management for maintenance and operations.

4. Budgeting & Cost Management

• Develop and monitor facility budgets, keeping expenses within approved limits.
• Track spending on maintenance and identify cost-saving opportunities.

5. Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and develop maintenance and security teams.
• Provide training and resources for team members to stay updated on best practices.
