Requirements

To be considered for the Nursing Assistant positions, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Qualification:
  • Must possess a qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Enrolled Nursing Assistant.
• Registration:
  • Must have current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC 2024).
• Skills and Abilities:
  • A passion for working with patients.
  • Ability to work effectively both within a team and independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with the National Core Standards, Public Service Regulations, Batho-Pele Principles, SANC Regulations, and Patients’ Rights Charter.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Nursing Assistant at Heidelberg Hospital, your primary responsibilities will include:

• Patient Care:
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality while providing optimal care.
  • Assist with patients’ elimination processes and provide elementary nursing care.
  • Measure, interpret, and record vital signs.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, including maintaining hygiene, providing nutrition, and aiding mobility.
• Clinical Care:
  • Provide elementary clinical care, including administering oral medication and injections under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Escort patients for clinical investigations when required.
• Health Education:
  • Conduct health education and group activities for patients.
  • Participate in infection prevention and control activities.
• Reporting and Conduct:
  • Report and record patient incidents as per hospital protocols.
  • Maintain professional conduct as required by the Public Service Code of Conduct and SANC.
• Training and Support:
  • Attend in-service training as required.
  • Provide relief in other wards when necessary.
  • Must be willing to work day and night shifts.
