Requirements
To be considered for the Nursing Assistant positions, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Qualification:
- Must possess a qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Enrolled Nursing Assistant.
- Registration:
- Must have current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC 2024).
- Skills and Abilities:
- A passion for working with patients.
- Ability to work effectively both within a team and independently.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge:
- Familiarity with the National Core Standards, Public Service Regulations, Batho-Pele Principles, SANC Regulations, and Patients’ Rights Charter.
Duties and Responsibilities
As a Nursing Assistant at Heidelberg Hospital, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Patient Care:
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality while providing optimal care.
- Assist with patients’ elimination processes and provide elementary nursing care.
- Measure, interpret, and record vital signs.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including maintaining hygiene, providing nutrition, and aiding mobility.
- Clinical Care:
- Provide elementary clinical care, including administering oral medication and injections under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Escort patients for clinical investigations when required.
- Health Education:
- Conduct health education and group activities for patients.
- Participate in infection prevention and control activities.
- Reporting and Conduct:
- Report and record patient incidents as per hospital protocols.
- Maintain professional conduct as required by the Public Service Code of Conduct and SANC.
- Training and Support:
- Attend in-service training as required.
- Provide relief in other wards when necessary.
- Must be willing to work day and night shifts.
