Introduction

The University of KwaZulu-Natal is seeking a Junior Programmer to join our IT department in advancing our strategic IT initiatives. As part of the improvement and development team, the Junior Programmer will play a key role in delivering effective solutions that optimize business unit processes and contribute to the efficiency of UKZN’s operations.

Position Summary

The Junior Programmer will collaborate with business units to analyze system processes, ensuring workflow improvements and seamless solution implementation. This role includes developing, maintaining, and supporting new and existing applications, ensuring data integrity, and supporting the roll-out of technologies.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

• Development & Support:
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance application systems.
  • Ensure data validation for database accuracy and consistency (ERP and peripheral systems).
  • Manage business system/application user requests, faults, and change control documentation.
  • Resolve queries from Super Users and provide first-line support on new technologies.
• Implementation & Testing:
  • Test, implement, and provide training for new technologies.
  • Support the roll-out of new developments and facilitate user adoption.
  • Provide technical support to end users.
• Documentation:
  • Document solutions and update user manuals.
  • Maintain comprehensive, up-to-date documentation for all technologies.

 

 

 

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Grade 12 certificate and a relevant 3-year qualification in Information Technology.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or a 1-year internship in a high-pressure environment within a large organization.
• Skills: Strong IT knowledge and experience in a development environment with project management skills.
