Are you a data expert passionate about driving efficiency and innovation? Exxaro, a leading South African coal mining company, is seeking a Senior Data Lead to join the team at Grootegeluk Coal, located in Lephalale, Limpopo.

Position Overview

As the Senior Data Lead, you’ll ensure that Exxaro’s data processes meet governance standards while enabling data-driven decision-making. You’ll collaborate across business and IT teams to implement scalable data solutions, improve performance, and maintain high data quality.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education:
  • BSc Engineering, BEng Computer Engineering, BSc Computer Science, or relevant B Degree (Essential/Minimum).
  • Certificate in First Line Management (Essential/Minimum).
• Experience:
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in a heavy industry, mining, or production environment.
  • Minimum of 5–8 years of combined experience, including:
    • 3 years in operational mining/plant environments.
    • 2+ years working with data to enhance decision-making through reporting, analysis, and models.
  • Proven experience with Agile and non-Agile methodologies and technical expertise in programming domains.

Additional Requirements

• Technical Skills:
  • Certificate in SQL Database Coding (Desirable).
  • Competence in MS Office and discipline-specific programs (Essential).
• Health & Safety:
  • Certificate of Fitness and Psychometric Assessment (to be conducted by Exxaro).

Key Responsibilities

• Data Governance & Quality:
  • Manage organizational data according to governance standards.
  • Ensure data accuracy, quality assurance, and completeness.
• Infrastructure & Design:
  • Develop scalable data infrastructure solutions.
  • Design and enhance ETL pipelines and frameworks.
  • Define and build dimensional databases with agreed formulas and ratios.
• Collaboration & Strategy:
  • Translate business needs into architectural solutions.
  • Collaborate with the IM team to develop long-term data strategies and conduct quality metric testing.
• Upskilling & Training:
  • Train and support teams on new reporting tools and self-service analytics.
