Introduction
The Department of Health and Wellness invites applications for the position of Porter at Mowbray Maternity Hospital. This role involves providing essential porter services in a hospital/health environment.
Location: Mowbray Maternity Hospital
Employment Type: Permanent
Annual Salary: R 131,265 – R 154,626 per annum
Key Responsibilities
- Assist and accompany patients using wheelchairs, trolleys, or beds from reception to wards, treatment sections, and in/out of ambulances.
- Deliver and collect medical and other documentation such as patient files and reports between wards and treatment areas.
- Transport specimens to laboratories while ensuring a safe and hygienic work environment.
- Assist with checking and replacing medical gas supplies in wards and treatment areas.
- Shift and transport medical equipment, reporting any defects promptly.
- Respond to requests from wards and departments.
- Transport blood and blood products between the Blood Bank and Mowbray Maternity Hospital using GG transport.
Requirements
- Education: Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Experience: Appropriate knowledge and experience in porter duties in a hospital/health environment.
- Licenses: Valid Code B/EB driver’s license.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift patients from/onto beds, trolleys, and wheelchairs, and in/out of vehicles.
- Availability: Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Flexibility: Prepared to work in all hospital departments and wards.
