Tradesman Aid
Introduction
The Department of Health and Wellness invites applications for the position of Tradesman Aid in the Western Cape. The role involves assisting with trade-related tasks and mechanical workshop operations.
Location: West Coast District, Emergency Medical Services, Chief Directorate: Emergency and Clinical Support Services
Employment Type: Permanent
Annual Salary: R 155,148 – R 182,757 per annum
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with basic repairs, services, and safe handling of tools and equipment.
- Identify and rectify faults/defects in items, equipment, and installations.
- Operate and use workshop power tools effectively.
- Perform administrative tasks including delivery of work requisitions, material ordering, and incident reporting.
- Move and deliver vehicles to and from ambulance stations, repair shops, and merchants.
- Assist with emergency breakdowns, including after-hours support.
- Maintain cleanliness of all areas and equipment in the Fleet Workshop.
- Adhere to elementary control measures, safety standards, and operational procedures.
Requirements
- Education: Grade 10 or equivalent.
- Experience: Trade-related and mechanical workshop experience.
- Licenses:
- Valid Code 10 (C1) driver’s license.
- Valid Code 10 Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- Experience operating and using workshop power tools.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy machinery.
- Availability: Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and public holidays when required.

- Ability to function both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and administrative skills.
- Sound report-writing abilities.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related safety principles.
