Introduction

The Department of Health and Wellness invites applications for the position of Tradesman Aid in the Western Cape. The role involves assisting with trade-related tasks and mechanical workshop operations.

Location: West Coast District, Emergency Medical Services, Chief Directorate: Emergency and Clinical Support Services
Employment Type: Permanent
Annual Salary: R 155,148 – R 182,757 per annum

 



 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic repairs, services, and safe handling of tools and equipment.
  • Identify and rectify faults/defects in items, equipment, and installations.
  • Operate and use workshop power tools effectively.
  • Perform administrative tasks including delivery of work requisitions, material ordering, and incident reporting.
  • Move and deliver vehicles to and from ambulance stations, repair shops, and merchants.
  • Assist with emergency breakdowns, including after-hours support.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all areas and equipment in the Fleet Workshop.
  • Adhere to elementary control measures, safety standards, and operational procedures.

 



 

 

Requirements

  • Education: Grade 10 or equivalent.
  • Experience: Trade-related and mechanical workshop experience.
  • Licenses:
    • Valid Code 10 (C1) driver’s license.
    • Valid Code 10 Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
    • Experience operating and using workshop power tools.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy machinery.
  • Availability: Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and public holidays when required.

  • Sound report-writing abilities.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related safety principles.
