Sibanye-Stillwater is seeking Laboratory Assistants to join the MRM Support Services Unit. This role involves laboratory operations, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards while maintaining efficiency in sample preparation, analysis, and reporting.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Education:

• Level 4: Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate).
• National Certificate Level 4 in GET Education, Training, and Development.

Additional Requirements:

• Medically fit for the specific business area.
• Clear security screening record.
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable).

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations

• Prepare samples for analysis according to standard operating procedures.
• Operate laboratory equipment safely and effectively to ensure accurate analysis.
• Perform tasks such as fluxing of plant/mine samples, tray identification, copper mapping, and silver nitrate addition.
• Conduct particle size determination on plant and milled samples.
• Ensure proper operation and maintenance of laboratory furnaces to produce accurate results.

Cupellation Process

• Prepare and maintain cupels for the cupellation process.
• Load and unload cupels from the muffle and manage the exhaustion process for efficiency.
• Perform regular muffle maintenance and floor leveling.

Parting Process

• Prepare and handle acids, including dilute and concentrated nitric acid, for the parting process.
• Test deionized water and manage the picking, washing, drying, annealing, and re-inquartation of prills.

Safety, Health, and Environmental Compliance (SHE)

• Adhere to SHE standards as per ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
• Participate in risk assessments and incident investigations, taking appropriate actions.
• Foster a culture of SHE leadership and compliance within the laboratory environment.

Quality Management System (QMS)

• Ensure compliance with the Quality Management System as per ISO 17025.
• Promote operational excellence and prioritize safety and health in laboratory processes.
