Forensic Pathology Officer
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is inviting applications for Forensic Pathology Officer (Grade 1–2) positions. This role involves supporting forensic investigations through the handling, processing, and examination of deceased persons, as well as assisting with autopsy procedures and medico-legal processes.

Remuneration
- Grade 1: R217 092 per annum
- Grade 2: R252 840 per annum
- Plus benefits including:

Minimum Requirements
- Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
- Passed subjects:
- English
- Mathematics
- Life Science and/or Biology
Experience:
- Grade 1: No experience required
- Grade 2: Minimum 10 years appropriate Forensic Pathology Service experience
Key Responsibilities
- Recovery, storage, and processing of deceased persons
- Assist with forensic autopsies and specimen management
- Ensure proper identification and release of bodies
- Manage deceased persons’ property
- Maintain accurate reports and documentation
- Support forensic laboratory operations and governance processes
Skills and Competencies
- Computer literacy (MS Word and Excel)
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to work discreetly and professionally
- Good interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Ability to interpret and apply policies
- Willingness to testify in court proceedings
Additional Requirements
- Valid Code B/EB driver’s licence
- Ability to work under pressure
- Willingness to:
- Work overtime and standby shifts
- Travel long distances
- Be trained in forensic investigation, dissection, photography, and 4×4 driving
- Ability to work with deceased persons (including decomposed or infectious cases)
- Willingness to assist in X-ray rooms
