The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is inviting applications for Social Worker (Grade 1–4) positions at Victoria Hospital. This role focuses on delivering professional, client-centred social work services within a healthcare environment, supporting vulnerable individuals and families while working closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Remuneration

  • Grade 1: R325 200 – R382 374 per annum
  • Grade 2: R397 119 – R459 996 per annum
  • Grade 3: R477 564 – R561 378 per annum
  • Grade 4: R585 441 – R725 754 per annum
  • Plus benefits including:
    • 13th cheque

Minimum Requirements

Experience Requirements

  • Grade 1: No experience required after registration
  • Grade 2: Minimum 10 years’ experience
  • Grade 3: Minimum 20 years’ experience
  • Grade 4: Minimum 30 years’ experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive clinical social work services to patients
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments
  • Develop and implement intervention plans
  • Support safe discharge planning
  • Protect vulnerable individuals and families
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate records and reports
  • Support and mentor junior staff, students, and volunteers
  • Contribute to departmental and organisational goals

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Report writing and planning skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Knowledge of legislation and policies related to social work
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Code B/EB driver’s licence
  • Understanding of health, human behaviour, and social systems
