Senior University Guidance Counsellor

The African Leadership Academy (ALA) in Johannesburg, Gauteng, is looking to appoint a Senior University Guidance Counsellor to support high-achieving students in applying to prestigious universities around the world. This permanent role offers the chance to mentor future African leaders and connect them with top-tier global education.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Guide an advisee group of 40-50 students on university admissions, including applications and financial aid
- Help students craft tailored school lists and prepare applications, including essay reviews and supporting document submissions
- Conduct college admissions and scholarship interview prep
- Write compelling letters of recommendation
- Mentor teachers in crafting recommendations
- Advise ALA administration on curriculum or other matters impacting university guidance
- Facilitate classroom lessons, parent webinars, and coordinate with university admissions officers
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 3-5 years of experience as a university counsellor or admissions officer, ideally with African or international students needing financial aid
- Active network in NACAC/International ACAC or similar organizations
- Project management or communications experience is a plus
- Effective communicator with a collaborative approach, and able to connect with diverse backgrounds
- Organized, deadline-driven, adaptable in fast-paced settings, and enthusiastic about international travel
