Artisan Assistant

Introduction

The Western Cape Government, Department of Health and Wellness, is seeking an Artisan Assistant for maintenance and handyman tasks. This role offers an opportunity for individuals with workshop and basic handyman experience to contribute to building maintenance and related projects within the healthcare environment. Requirements

• Education: Grade 10 or equivalent
• Experience: Basic experience in workshop tasks and handyman activities such as painting, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work.
• Skills: Knowledge in carpentry, electrical and mechanical tasks, air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, painting, tiling, and general handyman skills.
• Driver’s License: Valid Code B driver’s license
• Other: Willingness to work overtime and perform physically demanding labor

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in maintenance tasks like painting, unblocking plumbing systems, and basic repairs.
• Support installation, modification, and repair of equipment and machinery under the supervision of an Artisan.
• Conduct light electrical repairs and installations.
• Complete basic administrative tasks, such as filling out job cards.
• Transport goods as needed.

Competencies and Knowledge

• Basic Knowledge: Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Skills: General repair and maintenance, ability to perform tasks independently under supervision.

Salary and Benefits

• Annual Salary: R183,279 – R215,892
• Additional Benefits: 13th cheque, employer pension contribution, housing, and medical aid allowance.
