Trainee Train Assistant
Transnet is offering a Trainee Train Assistant opportunity within its Freight Rail division. This role is designed to train candidates to assist Train Drivers in the safe and efficient operation of trains. It provides both theoretical and practical training, preparing candidates for a career in rail operations.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist the Train Driver with safe train operations
- Prepare locomotives and ensure all equipment is functional
- Conduct pre-trip inspections and brake tests
- Assist with coupling and uncoupling of locomotives and wagons
- Perform shunting activities in yards and sidings
- Monitor signals and ensure safe train movement
- Assist during emergencies and incidents
- Maintain communication equipment and ensure functionality
- Complete administrative duties, including train journals
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics and/or Physical Science
Other Requirements:
- Must be 21 years or older
- Minimum height requirement: 1.6m
- Physically fit (hearing, vision, and mental fitness required)
- Ability to carry heavy objects
- Willing to undergo medical and psychometric assessments
- Must be willing to complete both theoretical and practical training
