The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is inviting applications for a permanent Driver (Heavy Duty Vehicle) position at Morning Star Community Day Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting staff, goods, and services safely across various destinations within the Western Cape while ensuring proper vehicle maintenance, compliance with departmental transport policies, and accurate record-keeping.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Transport goods, services, and personnel safely between destinations
  • Transport departmental staff throughout the Western Cape
  • Conduct routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks
  • Report vehicle defects promptly
  • Complete vehicle logbooks accurately and timeously
  • Adhere to departmental transport policies and procedures
  • Ensure vehicles remain clean and well-maintained
  • Provide relief support within the transport component when required
  • Perform standby duties and overtime as operationally required

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Valid Code C1 (Code 10) manual driver’s licence
  • Valid Public Driving Permit (PDP)
  • Willingness to work overtime, standby duties, weekends, public holidays, and after-hours when required

Experience Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Appropriate experience transporting passengers and goods within a healthcare environment

Knowledge and Competencies

Ideal candidates should demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of the Transport Circular of 2000
  • Good understanding of the road network within the Cape Peninsula
  • Safe driving skills
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised
  • Accountability and responsibility
  • Good organisational skills
  • Reliability and professionalism

Salary and Benefits

The successful candidate will receive:

  • Salary ranging from R170 226 to R200 523 per annum
