Pharmacist (Intern)
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is inviting applications for 20 Pharmacist Intern positions on a 12-month contract basis. Successful candidates will be placed at various hospitals and community health centres across the province and will work under the direct supervision of registered pharmacists. The internship programme provides newly qualified pharmacy graduates with practical workplace experience while supporting the delivery of pharmaceutical services within public healthcare facilities.

- Groote Schuur Hospital
- Tygerberg Hospital
- Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital
- Worcester Hospital
- George Hospital
- Eerste River Hospital
- Karl Bremer Hospital
- Victoria Hospital
- Khayelitsha Hospital
- Kraaifontein Community Health Centre
- Lady Michaelis Community Health Centre
- Vanguard Community Health Centre
- Bishop Lavis Community Health Centre

Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Provide pharmaceutical care under pharmacist supervision
- Evaluate prescriptions and dispense medication accurately
- Provide medicine-related information and support patient compliance
- Assist with medicine procurement, storage, control, and distribution
- Support medicine supply management systems
- Adhere to pharmacy legislation, policies, and procedures
- Participate in quality management initiatives and compliance activities
- Promote occupational health and safety standards
- Assist with training and development activities for healthcare workers
- Support public health promotion programmes
- Maintain professional and ethical pharmacy practices
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A pharmacy qualification accredited by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Qualification that allows registration as a Pharmacist Intern with the SAPC
- Computer literacy
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work accurately under pressure
- Professional conduct and attention to detail
Registration Requirements
Candidates must:
- Be registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist Intern
Applicants who have not yet completed registration may still apply, provided they submit:
- Proof of application for SAPC registration
- Proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees
This concession applies only to first-time professional registrations.

- Referral letters from three referees
- Certified copy of Identity Document
- Certified copy of Matric Certificate
- University academic record covering the three years of study
- SAPC student registration certificate
- Any applicable proof of SAPC registration application and payment
Failure to indicate five preferred institutions may result in the application not being considered.

Selection Process
- Shortlisted candidates will undergo a technical competency assessment.
- Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams.
- Successful candidates will be subject to verification and integrity assessments as prescribed by the Department of Public Service and Administration.
